Red Snapper

The August snapper bite moved deep — here's where

Bottom temps pushed the bigger fish out to the 180-foot ledges. We are marking stacked schools on the deep rigs and getting our best fish on live cigar minnows.

The nearshore reefs are still producing keepers, but the twenty-pound class fish moved out with the warm water. We spent the week working the 180 to 220 foot ledges southwest of the pass and marked stacked schools on every third number.

Live cigar minnows on a knocker rig have out-fished frozen bait three to one. If the bite goes soft, drop a heavier weight and get under the smaller fish.

Next week's forecast looks clean Monday through Wednesday with a two-foot chop. That is the window if you want a full-day run.
